What is Body Sugaring

Body sugaring is one of the oldest methods of hair removal, dating back to ancient Egypt. The sugar paste is made from three simple, natural ingredients: sugar, lemon, and water.

During your treatment, the paste is applied at body temperature and gently removes hair in the direction of growth, which helps reduce breakage, irritation, and ingrown hairs. Sugaring also lightly exfoliates the skin by removing dead skin cells, leaving your skin smooth, clean, and glowing.

Unlike waxing, sugaring is 100% natural, water-soluble, and gentle on sensitive skin.

Before Your Appointment

To help ensure the best results from your sugaring appointment, please keep the following in mind

Hair Length:

Hair should be about ¼ inch long (approximately the length of a grain of rice).

This usually means 2–3 weeks of growth after shaving or 3–5 weeks after your last wax.

Skin Preparation:

Gently exfoliate the area 1–2 days before your appointment.

Please arrive with clean, dry skin.

Avoid applying lotions, oils, deodorant, powders, or sprays to the area being sugared.

Sun Exposure:

Avoid sunbathing or tanning beds 48 hours before your appointment.

Sunburned or irritated skin cannot be sugared.

Clothing:

Wear loose, comfortable clothing to help reduce irritation after your treatment.

Post-Care Instructions

Proper aftercare helps prevent ingrown hairs and keeps your skin healthy and smooth.

First 24 Hours:
Avoid activities that cause heat, sweat, or friction in the treated area, including:

Intense workouts

Hot tubs, saunas, or swimming pools

Direct sun exposure

Sexual activity (Braz/Bikini service)

Your hair follicles are temporarily open after sugaring, so avoiding these activities helps reduce irritation and bacteria exposure.

To prevent ingrown hairs:

Wait 48 hours after your appointment before exfoliating.

Then exfoliate every 2–3 days using a dry brush, exfoliating mitt, or gentle scrub.

Moisturize regularly to keep the skin hydrated and help hair grow back properly.

Healthy, hydrated skin makes a big difference in preventing ingrowns and maintaining smooth results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at sugaredbylayne@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

How long should my hair be?
Hair should be about ¼ inch long, roughly the length of a grain of rice.

How long does a Brazilian appointment take?
Your first Brazilian appointment usually takes 20–40 minutes, depending on hair growth and previous hair removal methods. Maintenance appointments are typically 20 minutes or less.

How often should I book sugaring appointments?
Most clients book every 4-6 weeks, depending on the area and their hair growth cycle.

Can I get sugared while on my period?
Yes. Your skin may feel slightly more sensitive, but sugaring can still be done. Please wear a tampon or menstrual cup to your appointment, and just tuck the string away.

Will my hair grow back thicker or darker?
No. With consistent sugaring, many clients notice finer, softer hair and slower regrowth over time.

Is sugaring safe for sensitive skin?
Yes. Sugaring uses natural ingredients and is applied warm rather than hot, making it gentle for most skin types.

Can I get sugared while using Accutane or Retin-A?
Sugaring is not recommended while using these medications because they make the skin more sensitive.

Can I get sugaring while pregnant?

Yes! Sugaring is generally safe during pregnancy. The paste is made from natural ingredients and applied at body temperature, making it a gentle hair removal option.

Pregnancy hormones can make your skin a little more sensitive, so you may find the treatment slightly more uncomfortable than usual.

If you’ve recently had a baby and need to bring them to your appointment, that’s totally okay. I just ask that you please give me a heads up when booking so I can allow a little extra time if needed.

Because this is a solo, one-on-one studio, I can only accommodate one guest per appointment. Letting me know ahead of time helps me make sure your appointment stays relaxed and comfortable for everyone.
